Mercury’s Aftermath
Why was this Mercury passage so seemingly challenging? Other surrounding current planetary transits point to the answers. While Mercury retrograded within one of it’s own native signs of Gemini, a mutable air energy, so too were the Sun and Venus buzzing through the ever-changing swirling winds of the Twins. Situations on the collective involving life force and values equally saw communications and movement breakdowns, and the involvement of duality was abundant.
Wherever that slice of 21 degrees to 12 degrees Gemini falls in your individual birth chart was also the house, or particular area of life, that experienced a real sense of flux and redoing over this period. In as much as the collective has been enraptured by the tricks of Mercury’s intense channel of creating that appearance of imbalance- it is the house that we are personally affected by that shows us the area to be cautious in the most. When we are in the know of where to expect the unexpected, the element of surprise is severely lessened.
Many of the lessons of this 2nd Mercury reflection period of 2008 dealt with the collective’s intellect and ability to think and process thought- and the final outcomes of speech and written expression. One could turn on the news at any given time over these 3 weeks and oddly enough see these kinds of gaps and misunderstandings, aside from the high numbers of imperfections seen up close and personal in our everyday lives.
Within this recent retrograde we also saw Mercury in direct opposition to the approaching Full Moon’s energy in Sagittarius on Tuesday the 17th, just before going Direct. When Mercury and the Moon are in opposition, the contradictory battle between logic verses emotions of any given situation at hand can pose a many challenges. As we saw these opposing energies of mutable air and fire energies, remaining calm was not always so easily attainable, unless true patience and wisdom were being utilized.
So where does all this leave us, after the tornados of Mercury have just passed over us all? What we are now in, until the Messenger planet retraces it’s steps back through till 21 degrees Gemini again upon July 4th, is known in astrological terms as the “shadow” of Mercury Retrograde. When any planet goes backwards through those degrees upon the Zodiac wheel, there is always the shadow of that planet moving forward once more.
The shadow then becomes the time when one will see the opportunities to smooth out and rework those possible upsets that transpired. If there was something that just had to get started on Mercury’s shaky ground, undoubtedly the 3 weeks to follow will naturally present the means to stabilize these new beginnings. On an individual understanding, the Gemini ruled House in the birth chart points specifically to the area that one can now anticipate the ironing out of the wrinkles recently made.
Even though Mercury’s fluctuations can be irritating, ultimately these planetary passages exist so we as souls naturally take the proper reflection and reassessment time in our lives. In as much as these periods present changes that we may first choose to resist- it is in the end our acceptance of their entrance into our lives that makes our individual transitions all the easier. Life is always ready with the next lesson to learn, and when we heed it, the energy that follows brings us to another level within our own personal evolution.
May you cherish these given moments to achieve your soul’s inner work that not only allows you to be the best to the world, but most importantly, to yourself.
